| This is an active and able group that allows the school to improve and update equipment, plant, resources and programmes beyond those accessible from within the Ministry of Education's Operations Grant. Some of the projects that have reached fruition with the help of locally raised funds include, adventure playground, junior playground, pool shade sail and thermal blanket, computer network, Reading Recovery and again more recently the new covered walkway. Ideas, enthusiasm and help are always welcome. Meetings are held throughout the year and are advertised in the school newsletter. The AGM is usually held prior to the end of Term 1. Further enquiries should be directed to the current chairperson. The following excerpts from the Home & School Policy helps define its role. Rationale A school that has strong support from its community is better placed to provide enhanced learning for its students. Traditionally communities have always provided extras that have helped extend and promote educational opportunities. A group of enthusiastic supporters, freed from any governance role, can provide much. It must of course always fall within the objects and sanction of its governing authority, namely that of the school's Board of Trustees. These terms seek to give that authority and provide community volunteers undertaking this role, a measure of support and protection.
Goals 1 To provide an alternative link for parents/community and the school's board/staff. 2 To ensure that parents feel valued as part of the learning community. 3 To promote positive social interaction between home and school. 4 To promote the raising of funds for the school. 5 To provide an educative and supportive forum for parents and staff in which to interact.
