What is the Sounds Great Transition Project?
It is an education project established by a cluster of six schools in the Pelorus Region. The six schools, Canvastown, French Pass, Havelock, Linkwater, Rai Valley and Waitaria have obtained funding to better meet the transition needs of students in their geographically isolated schools.

What are its Aims?
The aim of the project is,
“To improve the educational and social development opportunities and resources for students and their parents at key transition points.”

What sorts of things have happened?

  • The coordinator has worked with early childhood groups and reception teachers to develop increased communication and cross group participation. There is a greater consistency of documentation and expectation.
  • Parents are actively involved through a series of community learning days and in their work as leaders of the early childhood groups.
  • A group of parents, teachers and principals meets regularly to discuss issues and plan events and activities across the cluster.
  • A transition record that tracks student transition from early childhood to high school has been developed and implemented.
