Katrina Kerr - Pelorus Teacher
Hi, I’m Katrina, a recently trained teacher. I am looking forward to bringing an adaptive and inclusive approach to teaching at Havelock school. I enjoy collaborating with people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. As Māori and a historian, I understand the importance of cultural identity in education and the responsibility to lift Māori achievement.
Alongside this, I enjoy creative craft hobbies such as sewing, scrapbooking, journal making, and mixed media art, where I enjoy experimenting with different mediums to produce meaningful work. This is something I would like to incorporate into my teaching.
I am known for my warm and friendly disposition, which makes me approachable and helps me build genuine connections with people from all walks of life. I value listening to others and respecting their unique histories, challenges and ideas. I am also initiative-driven, consistently identifying opportunities, anticipating challenges, and seeking proactive solutions. My curriculum strengths are predominately in the social sciences space of history and social studies in addition to a foundational knowledge of English for intermediate level.
